The importance of reading…

• It can support the development of important language skills.
• It can stimulate your imagination.
• Reading opens up the world and children can experience different cultures, histories and experiences.
• Reading can enhance social skills by encouraging children to have conversations about favourite books, share the experience of a storytelling group with peers and listen and engage with a story that is being read.
• Most importantly, reading is FUN!

However, at Step by Step School, we understand that the journey towards becoming a reader can be a difficult one and it is for this reason that:

We strive to make reading, the love of books and stories accessible to all.

It is valued, promoted and actively encouraged. This is done through many experiences, such as sharing the enjoyment of a book with another person, a story through sensory activities, actively engaging in learning to read or understanding that words and pictures are used to communicate.

Step by Step School do not limit this experience based on cognitive ability and all pupils are encouraged to engage with books and the wonder of storytelling, developing positive experiences of reading through their educational journey with us.
