The sixth Form at Step by Step has a continuing focus on communication and life skills, so learners can actively participate in day-to-day activities. Learners are encouraged to do this in the school and the wider community as part of their transition to adulthood. Step By Step continues to use the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) to underpin teaching and learning in the Sixth Form.
Step by Step’s sixth form curriculum aims to develop our young people’s social skills in order to encourage the development of positive, caring relationships and create a secure environment within which pupils will develop a sense of confidence and self-esteem, with a view to enhancing their learning. All pupils have access to a broad range of vocational opportunities that provide them with the chance to experience new activities and environments, these are targeted towards pupils’ individual interests.
We have an allotment in East Grinstead and the use of local community facilities which are used regularly by our sixth form pupils.
Each pupil in the sixth form has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) and the curriculum is focused on the following areas:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Community participation, Leisure and Recreation
- Daily Living Skills
- Vocational Skills/Careers Guidance
