Welcome to Step by Step School
Step by Step is a small independent day school for pupils with autism. We provide specialised teaching for Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form pupils, aged 4 to 19, who have a diagnosis on the autism spectrum.
To see what life is like at Step By Step this short video will give you an insight into our wonderful school.
We’re based in East Grinstead and serve a wide area of Local Authorities in the South East. These include: West Sussex, East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, Sutton, Bromley, Croydon, Kent and Surrey.
We help pupils develop the skills, understanding and confidence to reach their full potential and, as far as possible, lead full and independent lives.
Our school was founded in 2004 by a group of parents who had been running home education programmes. The aim was to provide a highly specialised approach to meet each pupil’s individual and autism specific needs within the social setting of a school.
The defining aspect of our school is 1:1 teaching for each pupil throughout the school day based on
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and supported by other complementary methods including:
- Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
